Day crew navigator Tom Wendel called just after Rob went though TS 7 in Prescott, AZ at 4:00PM EDT. That also moves Rob up into third place behind Jure Robic and Gerhard Gulewicz. Rob is about an hour behind Gulewicz and about 40 miles behind Robic (who checked into TS 8 about the same time Rob checked into TS 7.)
As previously discussed, the racers are doing some tough climbing today. Tom said that toward the top of Yarnell grade, Rob was starting to get tired, but it is slightly downhill into Prescott, so he was able to rest.
That is cold comfort, since the climb from Cottonwood to Flagstaff looms just ahead.
Rob's 24 hour mileage is 437, which is really, really good. As long as he is riding within himself (and by all accounts, he is) this is a really nice start to the race.
I, on the other hand, am getting finger cramps from all this typing. I wish Rob would take up bocce ball or snorkeling.

We're thrilled to "ride" along with Rob. Please let him know that I'm using data from his race to help my students prepare for their math finals here at Danbury High. DHS is behind him every stroke of the way!
Go Rob Go!
